Melina y Detlef workshop

Melina Sedo and Detlef Engel
workshops and demos in Seattle 2008

Tango is walking in an embrace.

Melina and Detlef dance close-embrace tango with a very personal touch. Their dance can be describe as elegant and puristic and while embedding modern techniques and elements into their tango, it says close to the roots of traditonal tango as it is danced in milongas.

Melina and Detlef mainly worked in Europe, where their dedication and unique teaching concept have set standards over the years. They started traveling worldwide in 2007 and are now giving workshops where people want to tango with sense and sensitivity.

In 2007. they also made their teaching debut in the US and performed in some of the most renowed milongas in Buenos Aires, like Porteno y Bailarin and Salon Canning. 2008, they had taught at the Portland, Valentango. Now they will be in Seattle for workshops and demos. Don't miss them!

to every one.

October 10, 2008

6:00 to 7:45 pm - Walking in an embrace(all levels)
Tango is walking in an embrace. During this workshops we’ll work on on the different aspects and variations of walking in an embrace, that can get very challenging. We’ll focus on the appropriate inner and outer posture, the expression of each step and elegant movements without the limitations of clinging to someone.

October 11, 2008

12:00 pm to 1:45 pm - Variations of ochos(all levels)
After some basic exercises we’ll vary ochos in the parallel and crossed system, find new entries and exits. If there is time enough, we’ll distinguish different methods of leading and dancing them according to different musical requirements.

1:45 pm to 3:30 pm - Tango Milonguero, dancing like in Buenos Aires(all levels)
Discovering the steps of the traditional Milongueros in Buenos Aires: rhythmical variations of walking, variations of the ocho cortado and more... After this class you get the approval of every Milonguero in Buenos Aires.

3:30 pm to 5:15 pm - Elegant variations of the cross(Intermediate/advance)
The cross of the woman is a very interesting and elegant element, if it is not danced automatically. Why use it only in the 8-count-basic and always left in front of right foot? We examine the technique of leading & dancing the cross properly, develop surprising new solutions and explore different kinds of elegant crosses.

October 12, 2008

12:00 pm to 1:45 pm - Vals musicality(Intermediate/advance)
Exploring the rhythmical variations in Vals and integrating them in variations of the walk and several known movements. This may sound simple, but it is not: there are certain rhythmical variations which are forgotten most of the time and dancing them requires the proficiency to really lead and follow in order to time your movements.

1:45 pm to 3:30 pm - Rhythmic turns(Intermediate/advance)
Developing rhythmic turns out of the basic movements (steps and pivots). We will do basic work concerning the technique and show 1 or 2 specific turns and vary them on the rhythmical dimension.

3:30 pm to 5:15 pm - Vote for a class:

Tango con sabor – Dancing real slow
Discover the slowness of the music and enjoy the embrace with the partner. Tango is not about arriving somewhere but about savouring each little movement in the process. During this class we will focus on closeness, feeling and pleasure in slow and romantic Tangos.

Sacadas and Ganchos de Salon
Modern movements may be integrated into close-embrace dance if we dance them organically and control our movement to a certain degree. We will work with tension & relaxation, examine the technique and develop possible movements.

Milonga con Traspie
We do conceive Milonga as a dance very much on its own, requiring and facilitating specific body mechanics and small-scale dynamics. You don’t need complex steps to improvise the music adequately - the connection to the music is what makes a good Milonga! We will explore rhythmic variations of walking, the Traspies and combine the basic elements to small and playful steps which allow you to interpret the music freely. A full pledged Milonga-course requires at least two or three classes, but we will focus on different aspects as much as possible.

Prices:
$ 25 - each class if taking one or two.
$ 20 - each class if taking three or more.
$ 125 - for all seven classes(pre-registration).
